TEXAS BIGHORN SOCIETY

18th Annual
"Roundup
Wrap-up"
$250K Raised for West Texas Bighorn Sheep Preservation
The Texas Bighorn Society (TBS) held its
18th Annual Roundup, which featured a desert bighorn sheep presentation by
Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist Clay Brewer and an auction, April 21st
and April 22nd at the Omni Dallas Park West Hotel.
Two desert bighorn sheep permits were auctioned on the
22nd, the Texas Governor's Tag being purchased for a record setting price of
$105,000.00 by Mr. Walter Ford of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The second
hunting permit, a Tiburon Island, Mexico desert bighorn sheep tag was sold
to Mr. Guinn Croussen of Dallas, Texas. Just over a quarter of a
million dollars was raised by TBS at this event "to further the
re-establishment of the desert bighorn sheep in Texas".
Texas Bighorn Society is a small, grassroots
conservation organization dedicated to returning the once extinct desert
bighorn sheep to its native habitat in the rugged mountains of the
Trans-Pecos region of West Texas.
TBS projects include the construction of remote water
collectors/guzzlers for bighorn sheep and other indigenous wildlife, the
purchase and permanent protection of state-owned property critical as
bighorn habitat and travel corridors, and support for the management and
development of the Texas bighorn herd, which now numbers over 800 animals.
